Coaches Have a Very Important Job

Coaches have a very important job, especially in the fitness industry. In order for clients to be successful with a coach, they have to be incredibly vulnerable and completely entrust the coach with their health.

This is a huge responsibility, and one that needs to be respected. Being an effective, responsible, and professional coach should have several core values, I believe. Like:

Humility

  • It’s not about you- take yourself out of the equation

  • Pursue and foster a culture of growth. Take risks.

  • There is no award for “best coach”. So do the thing, and aim to make it better. Effective and engaging coaching looks the same to everyone.

Communication

  • Be Direct

  • Be Honest

  • Be Concise

Professionalism

  • You have a duty to protect and help others. They are trusting you with their health, and you have an obligation to give your very best. Put HEALTH FIRST.

  • You should be able to coach everyone in the room, no matter their level of ability. If not, you need to go learn some more so that you can.

  • Foster and pursue growth. Be confident in yourself, and run the room.
